The Wild Bougainvillea

The Wild Bougainvillea

Ever remember
Our talks at the cafĂ© –
Down the main-street,
The old building is now
Closed and abandoned
The pink bougainvillea there
Grown wild, cascading over...
Oft when I walk past
The vacant lane, I hear

your voice, the echoes of
Our unending

conversation –

‘I am afraid of women’
You said once –
I burst into laughter
And laughed and laughed
For some reason, I never knew
And gaining my breath
From a low, a beam
Of angst struck my eyes
Your grey eyes probing
Mine – that night I cried
I never knew why…

‘We’ve only seen sunsets

Together, never a sunrise’
I said once –

It was your turn to laugh
And, in your callous
laughter,
In the rise and fall
Of its crusty tones
I heard the roar of the sea
And as I turned my eyes
A splash of grey
At the horizon struck
Mine -- that night I laughed
I never knew why…

Now, as I come to know
The why of it, I laugh and cry
In one single take – as I recite
Your daily hymn:
“Let’s forget it!”

Why is it so easy to say "Lets forget It" and so unbearably painful to follow through?...such a beautiful poem devika...from the reminiscing in the beginning to the tears in the seoond stanza..from the laughter in the third stanza to the painful end, your lines are so deep...such a pleasure to read!

If you could read O'Mother Nature...you will get another mood of mine..
the two were written in a go :)

hope this response conveys the intent to you...As I see...You are still too young to "read" it all....or I could be much older than I am...

I can only say that this is a brilliant poem Devika! Somehow it struck a cord with my past...I mean it...especially when u said

**From a low, a beam

I never knew why…

**READ THAT AND CLEAR THIS SPACE!!

wut does that mean Devika?

I left a reply for u in ur last post.

Im not sure what u want from me, but all u ever did was insult me, no matter how hard I try to be nice to u Devika. I don't know what ur motive is. Therefore, I wont come around ur blog again. Cos I don't come online to be ridiculed by anyone. Im sorry, u will hv to find someone else for that.

When u speak to ppl, be nice and sweet. Not so harsh and rude, for this life is too short to be unkind. If u couldnt be sweet to me, try to be so to the next person u come across. Online doesnt mean robots...we also hv hearts and blood flowing. So be nice to ppl Devika.

Fine Keshi, I understand your sentiments --
Lets keep off...thats all I have to say.

You told of Mother Nature REACTING ---

I too react when I reach my limits...Mine is done, ..I may not be able to take anymore.. so lets keep off...

Devika,

Seeing the present as it brings us back to the past and what "was" long ago...aw those memories of conversations long ago are special..but alas, yes life does change.

Love this beautiful photo. Wouldn't it be nice to have a place like this to meet for tea?..:o)

Blessings,

Rhi

Devika said...

Yeah, life does change Rhi. and mine is so changed now..just that those words echo sometimes...

but then its better to have memories, they say :)

and yeah -- if you would come, we will find a similar spot to have a tea together :)

thanks for coming, and the comment Rhi

God Bless

I'm particularly awed by the Bougainvillea plant and its flowers which are a treat to the eye! One notices them very much in Kerala too!

Btw....very well written! Hope your health has improved!

Devika said...

Hi Nikhil,

The words -- the main one -are pretty old...and the picture -- the result of a google search this Sunday, with a view of the building we had back home...and luckily it came near about it :)

thanks for coming and the comment...

btw -- one final request---do not say this usual 'take care' to me -- i am allergic to it by now.

Read the poem before --O Mother Nature -- you will get to know what i mean.

thanks,

Devika, I stumbled into your site from Raji Muthukrishnan's page. I enjoyed going through your archives. In fact I was actually flitting from page to page excitedly- especially on your "Essentially you" pages and was dissappointed to see you were on a break. Glad to see you back here better in health hopefully.
warm regards
