Inbox (5)

INBOX(5)

Was checking mails the other day…
Among many…found five relevant or interesting…

Three were seemingly important:

His mail from a motel in Dehradun city
‘Why don’t you keep the cell near you,
Was calling since last night- reaching tonight
I need a sumptuous supper and ….’
(these men!!)

Mail from office: HR/accounts department
‘Seasons greetings to you, Devika
We are concerned that the quality of your work has
not been satisfactory. Bonus payments will be sent in January first
week.
(oh my, my job!!)

‘We await your nomination –
Degrees available in the field of your choice
No Pre-School qualification required!’
(what a degree that is!!)

And 2 were e- cards:

Lovingyou,com: ____ send you an e-card
On trying to open, it said:
Gateway Error 505: Request Timed Out
Contact your network administrator.
(Administrating love!?!)

e-greetings from a friend met online-
Ships rocking the blue seas, a lighthouse gleams afar
The accompanying rap vibrate the air in my room

e-cards—to me is not worth a pawn ticket!

First time here :)

LOL Emails can be a pain but I am all for any kind of quick and convenient and harmless (no trees being cut!)communication.

But I find E-cards annoying.

Devika said...

Hi IHM!

Welcome here...thanks for reaching out...

I was in fact asking only about e-cards..

Email ofcourse - i am online freelance writer working for clients in the US/UK/Russia and elsewhere..and a regular writer for a UK-based company..which send all communications by email...

so all my important communication reach me through email...:)

but i don't mean friends, others are less important and i am not an avid fan of talking on phones...

cutting trees - agreed; but what about the plastic waste of computer frames...one way or other all these developments harm the nature...

Glad that you find e-cards annoying..

so we are generally on the same terms - nice to know :)

thanks again..

wishes,
devika

how can an e-card be annoying?
isnt it a nice gesture(whatever the motive)? or maybe its just me and my teenager-ness and cheesiness..and my intense exitement when i see inbox(1) even :)
thanks for opening up the comment page coz last time i checked it was open only to team members and i was 'itching' to comment esp on your poems which i read 2wice before i decipher and even then i decipher them differently from what ppl will have said on their comments :)

Yes, E-Cards have almost certainly robbed off the value of greetings that were once very regular!

In this modern age of over-the-net communication, we have surely lost out on the much needed personal touch!

Cheers

Hi Nivedita,

Put plainly, e-card is annoying to me because it takes time to download, especially those with music...and after veiwing once it just adds to the inbox MB..never again do i get time to go back to them...

It could be a nice gesture -but to me, motive of any action is too important...and a problem with me is that i may read negative intentions from even the remotest clue...but then, don't bother about it much...

I like the teenager-ness and cheesiness in you and relate when you say about intense exitement seeing inbox(1) :))

I might need to make friends with more teenagers for that...but again dear, i am short of time...and a lot depends on my mood..

yeah the other day i disabled the comments. I am sorry for the botheration - just that i didn't have the mood to read and rely to comments. But i would like to know how you decipheres them :)

would you come and comment again, Nivedita..its so nice to know an other's perspective...perhaps I gain an insight into myself..one can never say..:)

anyway, thank you for this comment..

wishes,
devika

Kai, my dear

Happy to know that you are doing fine…

But, I hope those magical fingers aren’t driving you crazy?
Borut says using the index finger can work wonders, but Kai..even a single finger can drive one crazy…I believe so…and have had my lessons more than once :)

Why I said that here –

I classed e-mails as something important and asked whether e-cards were any worthy to you…You say crazy emails! :)
You seem losing your mind dear..take care, dear..

(read my first response (to IHM) to see why email is important to me)

Love, (Hugs – forgot our deal?:))

Hi Rak,

Ente ponnu kutta, I can only agree with you…I love looking over those greeting cards, touh and feel them…I have quite a few with me as old as 25 years :)

Losing personal touch – I will tell you Rak…it’s a boon we have the Internet…

I know many neighbours who turn their face on each other, while I have friends wishing me good night and good morning over the Net…Its kaliyug Rak..what ever good we get from this world should be seen as a boon and thanked for :)

Debating the good and bad of each system is a very futile exercise …so lets give it a thought, ‘try’ to take a possible lesson and move forward :)

i instantly delete every e-card with an unknown sender... they are nothing but scam, and could be infested...

i'm glad you enabled the comments again - i liked your previous poems but didn't know how to tell you that

& I mostly get spam...

firebird said...

I love your dry wit in this post--you really skewered those e-mails!
I feel the same as Nivedita--I love to get greetings and there are some quite beautiful ecards...I guess I haven't gotten the annoying ones, but I can imagine!

RAJI MUTHUKRISHNAN said...

I love ecards - both sending them and receiving them. I can send greetings without having to shop for them, without having to go to the post office to buy stamps and post them, and without the agony of knowing if it has reached the recipient. And the cards can be personalised. I send them only to people known to me.

I love to receive ecards from people known to me because I can see they are thinking of me, and maybe, like me, find it difficult to go shopping for them.

Devika said...

Hi Polona,

Thank you for coming dear..
I agree and I do that; but when seemimgly from known senders..i tend to open...

But its just not about e-cards,
even most of e-friendships seem not worth a pawn ticket, Polona..
ofcourse, subject to the Rule of exception as usual with such generalisations.

and yeah, thank you so much for letting me know on the poems. it means something when you say that, really :)

thanks again,

Hi Cherie,

As usual so cute :)

Cherie -- in mine spams are usually segregated. Yet, the third is one...very much a spam!!

thank you for reaching out, i'm again lagging there..catch up soon:)

Hi Firebird,

You loved it?? so nice to know :))

okay about e-cards -- i have my reservations, but when such opinions come from people I love, how can i not consider, my dear one..

and coming to think of it with Christmas and New Year round the corner...and with some good friends --both old and new-- across the globe -- i too may have to resort to e-cards...

I do not have that much money to send paper greeting-cards to my friends so far :)

that makes me think about that part of the post itself...NO, but that was included for a reason...let it be.

thank you once again dear..

wishes,
devika

Devika said...

Hi Raji!

I typed a whole lot -- the system is giving problems when I make comments...sickening -- HOPE no one is hacking!!

what i was saying is -- I totally agree with you -- for some who find it difficult to go shopping or meet friends personally for some reason or other, Internet and e-cards offer much benefits...

Here, with a single mail -- i was trying to focus on the Gen X/Y/Z taken to e-way in realtionships and greetings...

that ofcourse is A way..but not THE way, i feel...Hope you agree..

and on "known senders" -- i have my reservations there..anyway, something very personal about it..will need to handle it myself..

thank you Raji for coming and the kind comment..

wishes,
devika

Devika-

I somehow like e cards. It means instant communication. Its ages since I have sent snail mail to anyone. Probably lazy or probably internet freak.

E cards are just another way of expression.

INBOX....I love getting e-mails...the five you pointed out pretty much covered all feelings. Very unusual :)

humanobserver said...

Hey thanks for sharing these facts....

R. Ramesh said...

emails- u hate some, u love some, but cant say no if u r asked to stop viewing them...good blog..congrats..

Devika said...

Hi Lorraine,

I do not know what’s happening every time I type my comments..it says it failed to upload it…Hope the Lord is taking his share of it :)

Yeah, what I was saying – I tried a wit, you became serious with it.. I doubt you meant your last post too much…please don’t Lorraine – age is also in the mind, no?

And this unusual thing about covering all in five – I didn’t receive all those in a day – I'd segregated and kept them – and then did a bit of fictional mixing also :))

Thanks that you appreciate it and also for reaching out..

Love,
Dev

Devika said...

Hi Deepak,

Thanks for reading those and the comment..

Its not all very pure facts in each mail, though it’s a combination of mails that I received and on different days :)

Hi Ramesh,

Welcome here..and thank you for the comment...

Infact emails- aren't a problem at all to me..in fact they are my life line these days..

i was saying of e-cards - there too i have second thoughts now :)

If you would wish to know, my response to Firebird will clarify..

anyway, thank you once again for reaching out...

Hi Devika,
Ecards are nothing but greeting cards in virtual format - a product of internet age like email or chat.
I am not sure why ecard over paper card should be a problem, if email instead of letters are fine, if chats instead of telephone calls are fine.
Just my two cents.
Cheers,
Salil

I get spams more, though these days they knws exactly where to go. I somehw find ecards intersting, may b coz, sending them is sooo easy.. by the way new here.

Devika said...

Hi Alok!

So nice of you to reach out…I had been to your blog 2-3 times after I left the last comment…I will visit soon..Internet service hasn’t been prompt since yesterday…

I am glad that you like the post, and agree on the e-cards…

But now, I plan to send an e-card to you – will you open and see ? :)

Just that much serves the purpose perhaps…why keep it like a pawn ticket, no?

things keep changing with me -- not to annoy you dear :)

i'll have to first see if I can have your e-mail if there...sometimes i say things without thinking :))

wishes,
devika

Devika said...

Hi Salil!

Oh my..thank you so much for those cents -- it means an acreage to me :))

Agreed dear, agreed -- and i will be sending you an e-card only, if at all...Truly speaking, I have lost the habit of sending cards...except occasionaly to my neice and nephew...some years i forget that too..

I lost the habit because no one sends me :)

thanks Salil, for coming here -- i almost thought you forgot me..until the other day you asked me if i come acrosss an island...

i know two island -- one figurative and one literal - the former is me and the latter is Andamans :))

Both, i'm afraid are -- Not available for Sale :)

you know how i joke with life, no?
COOL...i'm and so should be humour-writers..i feel

Hi Devil!

Welcome here..I was looking for a company :)

some prefer to change me and my 'Godly' name to call me Devil..and sometimes I am one!
only sometimes, a few moments..but I can well understand what a Devil Incarnated is :)

Yeah, spams are filtered these days-- yet some get into the system..i mean the inbox system..

And agrees with you -- sending is so easy, receiving and opening is the headache...but some headaches aren't so much of it :)

anyway, thank you for reaching out...i like the Devil's visits to last...it is a good release for me :)

i liked reading your post for a change to poems. especially all your replies to many comments. Do you like deep inside that this certiain kind of woman is known by others and accepted the way certain kind of woman is.

coming to your request - whether ecards are annoying or love depends on who sends to us and in what mood we open it.

I like ecards when received from some one is important to me. I am more a email man or letters written with hands and posted with stamp stuck with saliva in old style it has a personal touch - E cards are latest form.

You are free to agree or disagree
Would wish to know read your reply to my comment...

:)

( Is this certain kind of woman spontenous in responsding)

Devika said...

Hi KS!

Yeah, i try to be spontaneous ..if not, after a day or two..i don't feel like replying :)

and yeah, i like to be understood by others the way I am..aren't you like that?

yeah, the 'love' factor and my mood decides..emails and ecards...sometimes i don't open for days, some i delete the moment i have them..

there are times when i spend the whole evenings trying to open e-card..just because a loving somebody sent it..

letters-- yes, i like that old way...to see handwritings...feel the impressions..with all that thing about personal touch :)

for your question - arent you like that ? i dont think i am like that. I dont convince others nor get convienced. I dont clarify nor seek clarification. Its upto others how they want to understand me. I could never make any one understood about me unless they want to understand me.

Devika said...

Hi KS,

You could be right in your own way...

As it suits you KS..

to me -- a sustained commnication is the beginnning of understanding a personality...and the building of a relationship...

anyway, rules on the blogland seem to differ...

no issues here -- I think i got the right to choose mine, as you choose yours...
