A FORMLESS POEM

A FORMLESS POEM

Out of some nightly solemn dream
I entered a new world, an alien
Webby world it seemed to me
Witty names, forms ever wittier

I looked upon with awe – my only
React to life’s wonder- Oh my world,
Just my world, I thought, where I could
Change my form and voice with ease

A primeval in sultry robes, I looked
For light, the fire that would spark as
Weathered rocks rubbed upon the other
To cook my food- the green and raw

As I looked on, I saw myself turning
Into a lightning streak, the primal light
That flashed when thundering clouds
Ran over the other in raging winds

Then I saw me raining in the woods
Dark had fallen, so no one saw it pour
That night someone read me the palms
Of a homeless man in some holy city

I offered my robes to him, and took on
His cold to beat the wind and the rain
Soon I became a cool monsoon breeze
And I roamed the lands in passing delight

Touching the skies, kissing the treetops
Sweeping the mounts, brushing the seas
Seeing the wilds in woods, and the tamed
In yards, to each his own--God’s own gift

Now, I look at me – a formless form
Seeking function, a listless one for life
My body – turned some soggy fodder
My soul – a twisted penny tossed!

&

The web-cycle continues….
As I seek the sun, the single one
Atop, in wintry days that cometh
Reading ceremonial scripts of nature…

A true shape-shifting feat! And yet, there's no disguising the fact that, essentially, women are as shifty as the winds!:)

Hi Borut!

Just ot terrified reading your comment there :-))

Teachers can terrify and scold, definitely...

yeah, here ..No disguising facts Borut...but didn't i say swaying trees!?

oh, my sympathies are always with the trees, since as in the picture i feel i form the bark..that the falling leaves never notice!! :-)

yet the bark remains seperate from the tree :-)

thank you, Borut..thank you once again for being here first!

wishes!

nicely conjured.

indeed to be with nature is the best thing for us. one can never complement enough for what they can do. but then, how many actually care!!

I must translate.. But I think that it's a pretty poem...

"A formless form", but with the knowledge of how to create yourself--you did not forget--
and the freedom to become whoever you wish...
Such power you have, Devika!

Martin, enjoyed the photo!

Devika said...

Hi Polona,

Thank you so much, my dear

You are free to read it the way you want..and i would say, you could never be wrong, seriously and sincerely :-)

The photo link was very revealing, to me.

see you soon,

Hi Webradio!

So nice to see you after a pretty long while..

But, saying its pretty before reading!?? Like i saw your site in those earlier days ;-))

anyway, hope your new secretary helps with the transaltion :-)

beauty - lies in the eyes of the beholder, they say...so upto you to conclude!

thanks again..nice to know you were a friend despite being not here for long :-)

Hi Firebird,

If knowledge means seeking answers to basic questions of life and nature

freedom means ending one's right where the other's nose begins..

and power is just the capability to do work...

well, my bird i 'could be' what you say...

My dear, your words again awaken me from a sleep into a dream and that is the very dream which i had when i started blogging...

all these intermediary -- i take it as a preparatory session for a new world :-))

The single sun atop is very late in winters and leaves too early..so i'll still have time to roam around here i feel...:-))

seen your responses. will be there later...i liked the poem more..but was really surprised to know the name of the flower was 'cosmos' -- we do not seem to have the variety here..or well, i may not have seen it...

btw, Martin -- Paul Martin i suppose...His name has been a bit of a confusion to me many a time..others with the same name coming in between.

OR Firebird, is it the sir, who photographed the bark, that you are referring to..He is also Martin :-)

Oh, sorry Deep...
i missed to click the 'publish' link before..

Thank you so much for coming and the kind comment..

Nice to see a Keralite man among friends...i thought my friends in that category were becoming extinct ;-)

"but then, how many actually care "--i'll take it as a question rather than an exclamation - because i feel, there are quite a few left in the human race..and yes, most of the animals! :-))

thanks Deep, thanks again for being a friend here...

ps: hope surrealisti dreamers in painting are beginning to see the real dreamers..If the word dream never says about realisation -- i'm full of them...but not surreal..please tell MIP if he's a friend of yours...

he has not been publishing my last comments to him..a few other friends too, who fear to face the reality...

sorry, deep that i dump all this on you..discard with ease, what you do want..

but hope, sincerely you remain a friend..

Devika said...

hey Deep..i missed to type a word...significant - so correcting:

*sorry, deep that i dump all this on you..discard with ease, what you do NOT want..*

very 'nature', very nice!

Devika said...

Hi Andrew!

Thank you so much for being one of my earliest friends here..

the comment -- first read suggested kind of 'your very nature' ;-)

but then i know, and i'm sure you know that too..what it means when we comment on poetic/artistic works :-)

Glad that you liked it...

Devika Ma'am

Welcome back!

These lines are very well written!

To be one with nature and to see part of nature within oneself is the among the greatest gifts one can bestow upon oneself!

Eventually, the objective is to lose form which so much inhibits our interactions with the nature and the cosmos!

Devika said...

Hi Rak!

Please do not welcome me back so fast Rak..

yes, ocassionally I might come up with some verse..the rest of the blogs, i still prefer to rest ;-))

"To be one with nature....." -- I doubt it's my innate nature ;-))

"Eventually, the objective is to lose form which so much inhibits our interactions with the nature and the cosmos " --

WHAT in the world are you talking about Rak??

seems like Swami Tanmaya caught you wrong side..Not time yet Rak..for those great strides..now, i think, just my thought -- is that it is time for you to get married ...that too is a path, or a midway, to 'formlessness' ;-))

thank you Rak for coming..

Yes I like this Devika - formless form. That is in essence what we are but not often do we see it. When we can the world is ours.

Have been putting the backyard to bed so am late in commenting...everywhere :)

Devika said...

Hi Janice!

Missed to respond to this earlier..

thank you Janice..and you said right..

when we can the world is ours-- now i begin to feel! and most happily feel it..before it was like a strain...now i feel the lightness of a breeze..

thank you Janice...

i could see you were late today, i was sitting there in the backyard, watching :-)

"My soul a twisted penny tossed"
What a wrenching phrase! I see
a wandering soul seeking some
truth, something to believe in,
an anchor.

Devika said...

Hi Cynthia..

You been here too..so fast! ;)

but, that fast reading suggests that you missed to read something relevant to your comment..

"a wandering soul seeking some
truth, something to believe in,
an anchor."

The Sun atop is my answer to it..the truth that i seek for life on earth..

hope its clear to the 'poemflesh' poet ;)

love --especially the 'fleshy' ones are that i can never write....and i love reading your poetry :)

""Now, I look at me – a formless form""

I am just trying to visualize me like that a formless form!!!

Devika said...

Hi Maddy,

again which ever is the Maddy that is here..thank you for coming and the ccomment..

You visualising whatever is not my concern...

yet, i feel formless form is not that bad a form :)

btw, see Rakesh Vanamali's comment...he's got to know an enlightened atman - Swami Tanmaya..who happens to be a cousin of mine...do not know if Rakesh makes any sense to you...

i thought yes, but too early for Rakesh to pursue perhaps...

anyway, thanks again for coming and the kind comment...
